North London amateur dramatic society meet actor Sir David Jason

Instead of playing a character, the veteran actor offers viewers a rare glimpse of his own personality in The Show Must Go On, in which he revisits the world of amateur dramatics.

Sir David Jason relives his theatrical past to tread the boards and offer one lucky group of aspiring actors an incredible opportunity.

“I started my career in the amateur theatre,” he says. “It gave me a love of the acting world and, after ten years, the chance to enter the profession.” “We’ve found an amateur theatre group and we’ve set them a challenge,” he continues. “For one night only, they’ll be putting on a play in a West End theatre.”

Reports say Sir David Jason “squirmed” when he saw himself on TV – because he was playing himself.

The one-off documentary sees the Only Fools And Horses and A Touch Of Frost star follow the progress of the Argosy Players in Ickenham as they’re given three weeks to put on a production on the West End stage.

It appears David Jason may well be directing his first short movie.
Its called : All the Way Up and stars Lee Ingleby

This is David Jason’s directorial debut and promises to be a very interesting comedy drama from our favourite star.

According to IMDB it is a short 17 minute film, so it’s unlikely to win an oscar, even so it gives us reason to believe that Jason has no reason to retire after hanging up the hat of Frost last month.

Lee Ingleby, who grew up in Mansfield Crescent, Brierfield, has now completed filming All The Way Up. He is probably best known for his roles in George Gently, Jonathan Creek, Soldier Soldier, Dalziel and Pascoe, Life On Mars, Wind In The Willows, Nicholas Nickleby, Spaced and Nature Boy.

The film is a drama set in the fictional Queens Hotel, where Lee’s character works as a bell boy – one of the central characters. It also represents a departure for former Edge End High School pupil, Lee, who has mainly starred in TV shows in the past.

Sir David Jason leads birthday honours list

HIS role as the brash wheeler-dealer Del Boy Trotter in Only Fools and Horses ensured him a special place in the nation’s hearts, and now his talents have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, published today.

David Jason, who has expressed a desire not to be remembered solely for his Del Boy role, said he feels “surprised, delighted and humbled” at being made a Sir.

The actor heads a host of stars from the world of showbusiness to grace the list, including Dame Judy Dench, the award-winning chat host Jonathan Ross and the veteran radio and television presenter, Terry Wogan, whose Irish nationality makes him the recipient of a special award.

Jason, 65, already an OBE, first became known playing the part of Granville, the put-upon shop assistant in Ronnie Barker’s Open All Hours in the Seventies.

But he achieved legendary status as the dodgy geezer from Peckham whose delusions of grandeur in the face of adversity kept Only Fools and Horses on television for 22 years.

Another television hit series followed, in the shape of The Darling Buds of May, with the then budding Hollywood star Catherine Zeta-Jones, before yet another success, A Touch of Frost, in which he plays the maverick detective Jack Frost.

Dame Judy, doyenne of the London stage who became an Oscar-winning Hollywood star in her sixties for her role as Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love, has become a Companion of Honour.

The award cements her place alongside Jason – the pair were recently voted among the top-ten best-loved actors in a recent poll – as one of the nation’s favourites.

SIR DAVID JASON OBE TO OPEN MAJOR NEW EXHIBITION AT YORKSHIRE AIR MUSEUM

The Yorkshire Air Museum is delighted to announce that, in a rare public appearance, Sir David Jason OBE, probably one of Britain’s most well-known and respected television actors, will be officially opening the Museum’s major new exhibition Against the Odds. This will take place on Wednesday 19^th March 2008 from 12 noon.

Produced in association with the Imperial War Museum, this is the definitive national exhibition and educational resource about Bomber Command in WWII.

It is fitting to be on permanent display at the Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington, site of the largest original Bomber Command station open to the public in Britain and is incorporated in an extensive exhibition hall and cinema complex, with striking artefacts and audio visual displays.

Against the Odds details and explores the international reasons for the formation of this unique force and the unparalleled sacrifice of it’s young airmen from all over the world in a highly visual way, and shows the effects of aerial bombing of cities and their populations still a highly controversial subject to this day.

Aviation enthusiast and Honorary Member of the Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial, Sir David Jason is expected to fly himself in to the Museum by helicopter for the opening. Sir David will attend a VIP Reception which will include regional MP’s, civil leaders, tourism industry chiefs and Bomber Command veterans from 12 noon, with the public opening ceremony taking place at around 2pm.

Museum Director, Ian Reed said: “This exhibition is the result of several years very hard work and we are grateful for the help of Imperial War Museum in this venture. It is probably the most fitting place in Britain for it to be located and we are especially pleased that our Life Member, Sir David Jason has agreed to undertake a very rare public appearance on our behalf“.

Ask Jim Sullivan For Only Fools and Horses – Behind the Scenes

We have a very rare privilege of interviewing a person who has a wealth of knowledge on the subject of Only Fools and Horses in the coming month or two. Why such a wealth? Well you may be familiar with the name Jim Sullivan in the opening credits of some of The Green Green Grass episodes. Jim is the son of John Sullivan OBE creator of our national treasure sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

Why ask Jim?
Well Jim grew up literally like a “fly-on-the-wall” as his father extracted experiences and characters from around them. Many of the characters and reasons why the scripts were produced were based on experiences to the Sullivan family and Jim is very much aware of the background behind it.

So with this in mind, Jim Sullivan has kindly agreed a meeting with us to “Spill the Beans” on some of the creations and stories of his fathers great work.

We want to hear your questions before we meet Jim.

Del Boy: The Yellow Peril of the Sky

Sir David Jason at the age of 68 still lives flying around in yellow vehicles. Though we’re not talking about a 3 wheel van going air-bourne while driving as Del Trotter. According to Evening News 24, David Jason showed a touch of class when he flew his own helicopter into Norwich on a trip to highlight the work of the region’s air ambulance. Not such a yellow peril as David Jason is a skilled pilot.

He touched down at the East Anglian Air Ambulance’s headquarters at Norwich International Airport in an impressive-looking chopper bought for him by his wife. Being a bright yellow it really had a touch of Trotter too it, you could say it’s the sort of machine Sir David’s alter-ego Derrik Trotter could have only dreamed about owning during his days flogging dodgy gear around the streets of Peckham – that is at least until he and his young brother Rodney finally became millionaires in one of the most watched episodes of the classic BBC show in the mid 1990s.

But Sir David, who is also famous for his role in A Touch of Frost, was in Norwich to highlight the latest technology of East Anglian Air Ambulance which has the only chopper in the country fitted with a device to detect power cables.

The actor, who has just finished filming the last part of the ITV detective series and will soon appear in a black comedy called Albert’s Memorial, wanted to raise awareness that the charity receives no money from the government and relies solely on donations from members of the public and businesses.

He said: “My wife bought me a helicopter flight for a birthday present and I wanted to do it because it wasn’t easy – they are hard to fly but there is a great deal of pleasure in mastering the complexity of flying, it is great fun. “As a pilot myself I know how dangerous power lines are and this place has just fitted a helicopter with a new piece of audio equipment that warns the pilot when he approaches the power lines. When you come close to them they seem to disappear into the background and so it is easy not to see them.

Not the First time we’ve seen a yellow helicopter

This isnt the first time we have seen David Jason show affection for Yellow helicopters. Last year he showed he hasn’t lost his affection for Del Trotter by providing the crowds at Fairford, near Swindon, whre he officially opened the 2007 Royal International Air Tattoo.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance charity, which has two working machines and one for backup, said: “Power cables are the biggest fear of any helicopter pilot – some of our colleagues at Kent Air Ambulance hit some power cables and were all killed as a result. The device gives an audio and a visual warning when the helicopter is close to power cables, by emitting a series of beeps which get faster and faster when electrical currents are detected in the air. So if you see something bright and yellow in the sky above – if it’s not the sun – it may be our very own Sir David “Del Boy” Jason.
