We are pleased to release on the site today another mammoth finding for all Only fools and Horses fans. Original script shows missing scene in this photo.
After doing the recent NEC show with Nick Stringer (Jumbo Mills) at the weekend Perry Received this amazing gem in the post courtesy of Nick
Nick’s original script from the episode Who wants to be a millionaire.
We all know that John Sullivan over wrote each episode which had to be trimmed down, sometimes cutting out whole storylines to fit the BBCs 30 minute slots.
Its common knowledge that over the years it was always Uncle Albert’s war stories that were cut – although often re-used in later episodes some were never to see the light of day.
Until now….
Whilst watching the show with script in hand Perry found this little Sullivan gem – A never before told Uncle Albert war story.
The story comes just after we leave Del Boy and Jumbo agreeing to set up down under and just before Del pounces into the flat with the ‘we’re going to Australia’ line
Read on and enjoy – the part that is crossed out with blue pen below
Original script shows missing scene – take a read
Missing script:
Albert. No, I was home for a good while on medical grounds. We’d bin up in the North Sea laying mines. Well on our way back we… well we hit a mine.
Rodney. You hit one of your own mines??
Albert. Well it’s very difficult to remember where you put ‘em. I mean one bit of sea looks exactly the same as another. (INDICATING T.V/s) Anyway, I was back home when Jerry started all this saturation bombing. I was still with yer Aunt Ada then, we had a little house down in Parsons Grove.
Rodney. I don’t know how you stood it. I mean, death dropping out of the skies night and day.
Albert. Didn’t bother me and Ada. We used to fool the Germans.
Rodney. Fool the…..! How could you fool the Luftwaffe??
Albert. Well you see just outside in our backyard we had a little Anderson shelter. Whenever there was a night raid we used to go out to the shelter, switch all its lights on and leave the door wide open.
Rodney. (THINKS ABOUT IT FOR A WHILE) I know I’m gonna be sorry for asking you this, but if you switched all the lights on, then left the shelter door wide open, didn’t the German pilots see the light and drop a bomb on it?
Albert. Yes. But what they didn’t know was that me and your Aunt Ada weren’t in the shelter, we was hiding in the house! (SMILES PROUDLY AND TAPS HIS TEMPLE)
Rodney. Dear God – and we still won!
Albert. They nicknamed me the hero of Parsons Grove.
Rodney. Triffic!
DEL NOW ENTERS. HE IS NOT DRUNK, BUT HE’S HAD A FEW. HE CARRIES A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE
Del. Rodney, we’re going to Australia!
Rodney. I’ll just watch the end of this first.
Many thanks to Perry and Nickfor making this avaialble for all to enjoy
Wonderful! cheers to all concerned! I wondered if anyone would have access to the original recording tapes/reels of OFAH? They may still have recorded and cut scenes for us all to view (perhaps as extras to future DVD releases!) As we all know they added loads of extra bits in Sickness and wealth for the DVD release that weren’t televised.
In the words of Albert – Might be worth considering!
Looking back on it, that scene did seem like there was something cut off. I guess now it makes sense. Great little Rodney and Uncle Albert scene. “Dear God-And we still won!” My favorite bit. :D
A great find and all that, but why is this in the ‘latest news’ bit of the site?
Terrific!!!!!! You conjure hear them running through the scene. Thank you!
