Ray Butt the original producer of Only Fools And Horses has sadly died.
Director of the first five series of our favourite sitcom Only Fools and Horses Ray Butt died at the age of 78. He will be remembered as the director of Carla Lane’s, The Liver Birds, Happy Ever After and long running sitcom Terry & June. He is also credited for work on Spike Milligan’s Q5, Last Of The Summer Wine and Seconds Out.
He also directed a number of episodes of David Croft’s It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, and three series of Are You Being Served?.
Before Only Fools And Horses, Ray Butt established a working relationship with the sitcom favourite’s writer, John Sullivan, on his earlier series, Citizen Smith, directing 23 of the programme’s 30 episodes.
Ray Butt died on Friday 12th July 2013, and is survived by his partner, Jo Blyth, and a daughter from a previous marriage.
I was sad to hear of the death of Ray Butt, I had the pleasure of working for him for over a year as his Secretary/PA. He was a wonderful boss, kind, generous and funny. One of the best positions of work I have ever had.
