But why was he called Trigger when his character name is Colin Ball?
One early episode has Rodney asking the same question to Del. Rodney asks “Del, do they call him Trigger cos he carries a gun?” Del reveals “no, it’s because he looks like a horse”.
Trigger was the horse ridden by Roy Rogers a cowboy from the early 1950s.
The real horse Trigger used in the films died in 1965 and was preserved in the Roy Rogers museum in USA, not that it’s an consolation for Colin Ball.
Trigger or Colin Ball?
I suppose this leads to the next question, how do we know Trigger is actually called Colin Ball? Certainly it’s always been in John Sullivan’s notes that this is the case and may be this will get revealed during an episode of Rock and Chips. Either way it’s certainly an accepted fact amongst Only Fools fans.
So in conclusion:
Roger Lloyd Pack played the Only Fools and Horses character Colin Ball known as Trigger due to his horse like look.
