Del, Rodney and Grandad are in the Shakin Stevens video according to only fools and horses fan Steve Gonzalez. Remarkably the threesome made it into the actual pop video by Shakin Stevens. I wonder if this is where John got the idea from for Rodney to Join Mental Mickey in a few series later?
Steve Gonzalez tells OFAH about the Shakin Stevens Video:
I was watching ‘Britain’s favourite Christmas Songs’ on Channel 5 last night. And at number 22 was the Shakin’ Stevens version of ‘Blue Christmas’.
They had him on there talking about it and he said that when it was released in 1982 the record company never made a proper video for it. The only footage on him singing it was on a TV show, which they played a clip of.
At the end of the Shakin Stevens Video, TV presenter Russell Harty stood up at the front to shake his hand, so I presume it must’ve been from a show he hosted. I think he use to have a chatshow on BBC1.
It looked like it was some sort of christmas party show because people were sitting at tables and Shaky was going around the tables singing.
Anyway, sitting on one of the tables were David Jason, Nick Lyndhurst and Lennard Pearce dressed up as Del, Rodney and Grandad. Del had a grey suit jacket on, and Rodney was wearing the faded black leather jacket he wore in some of the earlier episodes. Grandad had his hat on.
It was only a brief glimpse of them, 2 to 3 seconds but I’d never seen the footage before or read about it so it was strange seeing them sitting there.
Like I said it looked like it was part of a show hosted by Russell Harty, so perhaps they’d been on their as guests and been interviewed before the Shakin Stevens song ?
Apologies if you already know about it, but if not I hope it might be of interest and make a good bit on the website?
I’m sure other people may have seen the show I saw yesterday as looking through the TV guide it’s been repeated a few times over the last week. I didn’t record it, but I’m sure someone must of that can verify that I wasn’t just seeing things !
Well Your absolutely right Steve and you can still catch the Shakin Stevens Video and the glimpse of the boys on this Channel 5
Nine titles will be available at launch date, including Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston’s The Morning Show. We’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Apple’s TV Plus service. Here’s a list of programs to help you keep track of what’s been ordered so far.
What was the name of the actress who has a slow-dance with Jevon at the disco as Rodney and Mickey leave, in the episode Yuppy Love?
I have a copy of the full episode recorded at the Woking Homes (Railway Orphange) in Woking. I was one of the children singing in the opening of the show.
Just for reference, this was taken from ‘Harty’, broadcast on BBC1 on Wednesday 21st December 1983. So if anyone can track the full episode of that down, we’ll probably see an interview, possibly in character judging by the costumes.

20:00 exactly
That’s brilliant, 4 minutes of Only Fools and Horses i’ve never seen before, even some original stuff in there too. Thanks for the link.
Brilliant. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. I just saw the Shakin Stevens Video on YouTube
It’s weird how these things just appear out of the blue. I mean what the hell, them just sitting there like that it’s weird. Hopefully we find some more archive stuff, if we ever found a missing episode. Now that would be amazing. Won’t ever happen though. :(
Already has happened with ‘Licensed To Drill’, and also little bits like ‘Christmas Trees’ and ‘White Mice’ which could only have been remembered by a few when they were found all those years later.
Yeah, true.
I saw this on christmas day and wasnt really paying attention until my mum shouted “theres rodney”
I didnt realise del and grandad were there too….
nice read will check the vid out later ;)
