It’s with sad news we are all ware that one of our most loved character Trigger and actor Roger Lloyd Pack died aged 69.
He has suffered with some health issues recently its reported in the telegraph that his agent revealed he had pancreatic cancer. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
Roger Lloyd Pack was a much loved actor who along with the blue suited Trigger also played Owen Newitt in the Vicar of Dibley.
Actor David Jason has led tributes for actor Roger Lloyd Pack – best known as Trigger in Only Fools And Horses.
Sir David, who played Del Boy told reporters of his “fondness” for his sitcom co-star and described him as a fine actor.
“I was very saddened to hear of Roger’s passing. He was a very quiet, kind and unassuming actor who was a pleasure to work with, Although he played the simple soul of Trigger in Only Fools And Horses, he was a very intelligent man and a very fine actor capable of many roles. I shall remember him with fondness and for all the good times we had together.”
Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Only Fools character Rodney said:
“I’m so saddened to hear about Roger. He was the most accomplished actor and loved by millions, I will miss him greatly.”
Roger first came to the notice of the public with television performances which date back to 1965.
Trigger : Never forgotten
We will always remember the clasic moments Roger bought Only Fools and Horses fans, here are a few of our favorites
Rodney – Why do you call me Dave, Trig’ – My name’s not Dave, Its Rodney
Trigger – Are you sure
Rodney – Yes, I’ve checked it on my birth certificate and everything, its definitely Rodney.
Trigger – So what’s Dave, a Nickname ‘like
Rodney – No – you’re the only person who calls me Dave, everybody else calls me Rodney – and the reason they call me Rodney, is because Rodney is my name.
Trigger – Well, I shall have to get used to calling Rodney from now on.
Rodney – Thank you
Trigger – How long are you going to be Baz, Me and Dave haven’t got all day.
Rodney – RODNEY!
Trigger – yeah yeah.
Or how about the Trigger broom discussion.
Or the time in Heroes and Villians where Del and Rodney burst into a party after the fancy dress was cancelled. The room is full of people, with black suits and ties – Del and Rodney are stood in Batman and Robin outfits as Trigger asks “Didn’t you know the fancy dress was cancelled” – Trigger then tells Del that he also didn’t know the fancy dress had been cancelled and he thought he stood out a bit in his suit and tie.
Trigger was one of the greatest sitcom characters ever made and will remain forever in the hearts of Only Fools and Horses fans!
Can someone explain to me what Trigger meant in the episode ‘Mother’s Nature Son’ when he tells Denzil that he doesn’t know what the Beatles’ manager has got to do with it? Appreciate an answer thanks :)
Denzil said “That’s Derek Trotter not bloody Einstein!” Trigger thought The words ‘Bloody Einstein’ were ‘Brian Epstein’ who was The Beatles manager.
Mum and I were lucky enough to meet
Roger at the convention in 2011.
He seemed like a lovely man, we were
queuing for seven hours which meant he
been signing that long. It is a great loss
and we are glad we met him.
Mum and I were lucky enough to meet Roger
at the 2011 convention he seemed like
a lovely man, especially as we’d been queuing
for nearly 7 hours, which meant that he’d been
there signing for all that time.
We would of really liked to of met him again
at the 2013 convention.
Very sad loss.
Of the many sayings trigg came out with , by far the funniest ( and I am laughing as I write this ) has got to be………
” Linda , nice girl , funny eye. You don’t know if she’s looking at you or waiting to see if a bus is coming ”
No one else could have played trigger. No one.
God bless Roger.
Terrible grammar in this article!!!!
Loved your work Roger. One of the true fools legends has passéd!
Like everyone I was saddened to hear that Roger had passed away. Such a wonderful actor who brought joy and happiness to legions of fans. Feel fortunate that I was able to meet him at one of his many appearances organised by the appreciation society. I’ll never forget sitting and chatting to him on the replica set surrounded by all the props including Triggers infamous broom. God bless Roger Lloyd Pack and vive hooky street.
Feel like Roger was taken from us too soon.
Rest in Peace, dear Roger.
Trigger will forever live on.
RIP Roger….
I was lucky enough to get a “keep it cool Trigg” signed print as a gift, will always take pride of place in my lounge
God bless Roger Lloyd-Pack, thank you so very much for all the memories
Our deepest condolences to Rogers family and friends. A wonderful actor and a generous person with his time for good causes. Thankfully Rogers talent has been captured on film with his various characters, funny and straight performances.
R.I.P Mr Roger Lloyd Pack
RIP Roger! You are and will always be a true OFAH legend! Who will live on forever through OFAH and still be entertaining us all and the generations to come! As a tribute i’d like to share a few of my favoruite Quotes.
Mike: I’ve had certificates for my beer.
Trigger: Yeah, I’ve had a few days off work with it as well.
Trigger: And that’s what I’ve done. Maintained it for 20 years. This old broom’s had 17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time.
Sid: How the hell can it be the same bloody broom then?
Trigger: There’s the picture. What more proof do you need?
RIP Trigger!

thanks for that karl – yes we got a few complaints that Roger wasn’t there on the day but we only found out the day before he had cancer – he was planning to attend right up until the last minute but just couldn’t – he was that kind of guy, he didn’t want to let anyone down. Obviously I couldn’t say why he wasn’t there but hope everyone can now understand why.
perry
Hi Perry I just wanted to ask you was Roger gonna have a main role in the sport relief or did he have like a short line of dialogue I would appreciate a response – Ashton
Hope you’re up there with Mike giving him an earful about watering down the beer Trig my son.
RIP Roger, a fantastic actor.
Totally agree with the comments made so far… With OFH being a major part of life for 30 years, losing a cast member is a big loss and also a sign of the passing years. Trigger is a household name and will live on for years to come. His legacy is secure…
I am gutted at this sad news. It’s sad when anyone dies but as I am such a huge fan of only fools and I have grown up with the show. It always feels especially sad when someone involved in it passes away, it’s like losing a family member.
My thoughts go out to his family and all I can say is thank you for the laughs roger. Rip
I was at the Only Fools Convention in Reading last year, which Roger was billed to attend. When the news reached us that he wasn’t to attend, everyone was gutted, to say the least.
I was so glad that I purchased a convention poster, that Roger had pre-signed.
As an OF&H member, I was sad to hear the news of Rogers passing and my thoughts go out to all his OF&H co-stars, all his actor friends and most of all, his family.
He was a Great Actor — A Legend.
