Derek and Rodney embark on a trip to France, agreeing to visit Uncle Albert’s Navy memorial ceremony in his honour.
Upon their arrival at the village, they learn that Uncle Albert was hounded out of the country by the Resistance, due to his randy ways. Del and Rodney notice all the villagers seem to have mariner’s beards. Coincidence?
Del, Boycie, Trigg, and Denzil pre-arranged a dodgy booze scam at Duty Free using Denzil’s empty van& much to Rodney’s annoyance.
When they arrive they discover an illegal immigrant has seemingly stowed away in their van. Naming him Gary, they house him, only to find he has escaped. Sadly the connection between Boycie’s important business deal with a millionaire, and his missing son, isn’t made. They wind up in the Nick, arrested as The Gary Gang!

Episode Observations
- In Strangers on the Shore, when Boycie comes to the flat, he claims that all he has is the clothes he’s wearing. But at the market later, Raquel tells Del that she is sick of Boycie putting on the hair gel that smells of onion (because of Del). How could he use the hair gel if it was still in his house?
- In Strangers on the Shore, If you notice, the pygamas that Gary wears are the same ones that Del wore in the 1989 episode Sickness And Wealth.

Behind the Scenes
Some filming behind the scenes in Viva France as the French say
Did You Know?
The working title was “We can do it Bruv” before it was later changed to Strangers on the Shore.
Appearance
Our very own Perry Agajenoffa, president of the OFAH Appreciation Society and founder of the OFAH Museum, appears in the background of the Nag’s Head, but has never been seen as it remains on the clipping floor.
“can you see Mike conning the brewery”
The first episode he’s in he cons the brewery out of £1000, which he and Del split.
Was the village in France actually a village in France, or just a village in the UK made to look like it was in France?!
thought this episode was rubbish – the Gary thing and Alberts beards annoyed
me more than anything else. And can you see Mike conning the brewery?
If OFAH hadn’t finished in ’96 and continued on and on, I think it’d kept its momentum up. Unfortunately, after stopping for five years, it kind of did lose it’s touch because TV audiences move on when newer shows are released, and fans of the show will expect so much from John Sullivan and the stars when a come-back is on.
Re: Mike conning brewery – yes, I can actually see him doing this, although, he was one for trying to refrain from getting involved with any dodgy deals. Still, it worked for me.
R.I.P James Ellis I was actually gonna write a script recently about Albert and his friend George Parker this bit of news has shaken me.
RIP James Ellis.
When will the script be downloadable
I would like to request a book of the final three (the new ones) episodes like what you’ve done with the series throughout the years.
Thank you.
Does anybody know whether the music (French Sounding, if there is such a thing)is during this episode. It seems to be played when Del and Rodney are in the 3 Wheeler in France. I don’t know whether it’s an acutal song or just something the BBC created for the episode. Any help would be good.
still no recorded delivery refund from perry of £2.73
