Tony Angelino was superbly played by the multi talented Phil Pope, a man who composes music for many a tv series and who is no mug when it comes to comedy acting too. But what songs would Tony want to avoid, although Eugene’s mother might disgaree.
1 – Lady In Red – Just a couple of verses of Chris DeBurge’s massive hit and the lady in question will go from a single girl in a bright dress to a married woman in white.
2 – Rabbitt – He may sing in Chas and Dave’s manor but if Tony were to try to sing this jollly upbeat song he would end up sounding like Elmer Fudd.
3 – Rock Around The Clock – a classic bit of wock and woll that made Bill Haley a worldwide smash but if Tony managed to mangle it could come out sounding like he is intent on doing some late night Chinese cooking.
4 – Reet Petite – the surprise Christmas number 1 of 1986 in which Jackie Wilson gives a fantasticly long “RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR”, a task too far for our refuse colletor.
5 – Rio – A great 1980s hit for one of Del’s favourites Du-run Du-run which Tony would certainly struggle with. The girl in question and indeed the fabulous city, would get a new moniker as our hero serenades her.
This choice came from Darren Lethem. “I am a breakfast radio presenter so get to hear a lot of music and OFAH would certainly be my subject on Mastermind. A finer TV show I have yet to see”.
Do you agree with Darren Lethem Top 5 or can you think of some other crackers for the Tony Angelino charts?
Congratulations – Cliff Richard
Please Release Me – Engelbert Humperdinck
The Green Green Grass Of Home – Tom Jones
Whispering Grass – Don Estelle
Shake, Rattle & Roll – Bill Hayley & His Comets
Crocodile Rock – Elton John
Somewhere over the Rainbow
Red red wine or Roxanne
Bobby Day – Rockin’ Robin..
The Velvet Underground’s “Run Run Run”, (particularly the line ‘you gotta run run run run run’) would probably prove very challenging for Tony. He might end up sounding like he was reading a long list of score draws in the classified football results, bless him.
You Drive Me Crazy!
“Row, Row, Row, Your Boat”
How about “Cry me a River!”
