Future Episodes of \u00a0Only Fools And Horses? – by Scott Valentine.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, on April the 23rd<\/sup>\u00a02011 OFAH fans the world over were met with the sad news that the series\u2019 supremely talented creator, John Sullivan, had passed away in hospital, aged 64.<\/p>\n

John Sullivan\u2019s untimely passing was received with floods of testaments from Family, Friends, Fans and the media alike.\u00a0These testaments made praise to john\u2019s life and work and projected an unrivalled respect that is commanded only by masters of there art, John was a master of the written word and proved so time and time again by producing writing of the highest quality.<\/p>\n

Not only did John Sullivan and the team, kindly provide us with a majestic visual experience that was documented in the life of the trotters, he also demonstrated extreme care and attention to\u00a0arguably<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0lesser characters by writing the spin off series\u00a0THE GREEN GREEN GRASS.\u00a0<\/strong>This itself proving to be a popular show which focused on the lives of Boycie and Marlene – two long-standing characters from the original OFAH cast.<\/p>\n

More recently Fans were treated to\u00a0ROCK AND CHIPS,\u00a0<\/strong>an atmospheric comedy\/drama which shines the spot light on Del\u2019boys younger years. This particular show also delves into the complex relationship between Joan Trotter and Freddy the Frog, played excellently by Kelly Bright and Nicholas Lyndhurst respectively. Rock and chips and its pre-descending episodes was revelled by fans and acclaimed by critics nationally. The success of both these shows only serves to prove that, with every\u00a0installment\u00a0of the OFAH franchise the fans are left wanting more future episodes.<\/p>\n

Future Episodes based on Trust<\/h2>\n

The problem, now lies at the feet of trust. Would an aspiring painter be commissioned to re-touch the famous Mona-Lisa?, or would an unknown musician compose a sheet of music and publish under the banner of Mozart?, obviously not. The same problem be fit\u2019s all future extensions of OFAH. To even contemplate the thought of having the next\u00a0installment\u00a0of the series\u2019 penned without the golden touch of the late John Sullivan hand is, at best nauseating.\u00a0The current situation leaves creators with several options in which to progress with future episodes of the show (if permitted of course).<\/p>\n

One option and by far – would prove to be the most popular is to continue the show with the current cast. The Trotter family and every one else associated with the series would pick up were they left off. Although this scenario fits as the perfect choice if the show were to produce new episodes and be broadcast again, regrettably there would be issues. The first of these obviously being that the show would be absent of John Sullivan, the man who was essentially the heart and soul of the original set up and the origin of where the mesmerising life of the trotters stems from.<\/p>\n

The next issue is, were already approaching near to a decade since OFAH last hit our screens. This amount of time could bare implications on the continuity of the show. \u00a0I believe that one of the reasons the first show proved so popular is the family spent so much time together, for better or worse. A large amount of this time was spent in a three bedroom council flat, raising tension, which im sure only added to the hilarity. It would be hard to believe that the whole family still resided at Nelson Mandela House after such a large amount of time has passed. If by chance it was to be the case that Rodney had flown the nest (again), the perspective regarding the story lines would require a broader scale involving two families, possibly losing that personal bonding between the lead characters.<\/p>
