Real Miracle of Peckham – Tourism is Up thanks to Only Fools
Lets face it Peckham is barely a tourist trap, but it seems according to locals its well on its way thanks to Only Fools and Horses. Fans of the top british sitcom are turning up in droves asking locals where the Fatty Thumb is, or where Slater can be found. Expecting to see the yellow 3 wheeled van any moment they venture to cross the peckham high street.
Of course most fans should know that Peckham was never used in the show at all. When the series was filmed in London in the early series Acton was home to Nelson Mandella house. More recent episodes saw the set move to Bristol.
Even the Mirror reported this week that “Tourists are flocking to the tough London borough of Peckham – thanks to the on-screen antics of Del Boy and Rodders. One in 20 Britons have had a lovely-jubbly day out in the inner city area of TV’s Only Fools and Horses. ”
The article continued…”They don’t mind looking like plonkers by asking locals for directions to the fictional Nag’s Head or Nelson Mandela House, and research reveals 38% of TV viewers have visited a UK destination seen on a favourite programme.”
