In the early 80’s I had “The Victory” a pub in Sutton, near where John lived and he often used to come in and sit quietly. I have always wondered whether he based any of the characters in “Only fools” on people he saw(even me as the Governor !” One of my bar staff, Maureen, was one of John’s wife Sharon’s best friends. I have just finished David’s latest book in which he mentions that he would have liked to have been on stage with Frank Sinatra. Before I bought the pub, I was a Police officer, and had the great privilege and honour of being his bodyguard when he appeared at the Royal Festival Hall for the whole week. I was with him in his dressing room and at the side of the stage during his performance. On the last night he asked me if I would like to see his performance from the box reserved for him with my wife…. you can guess my answer !! One of the most outstanding weeks of my life. Best wishes to you David Jason …Chris Hackwith

    Dear Perry,

    Hope all is well.

Myself and my 10 year old son Rishi Bhavnani are huge fans of OFAH and recently bought 29 copies of Hookie Street (which we are slowly reading during bedtime reading session).

We recently bought the OFAH board game and must share our disappointment in terms the quality of the game.

We found the experience was poor to say the least, in terms of being clear with the rules, finding a winner etc.

We struggled to understand to follow the flow of the game and after only 20mins (and £20 later) decided to give and it is unlikely to be played again anytime soon.

We feel the board game did not reflect our enjoyment of the show as fans.

Just thought we’d let you know in case you wanted to include in your next issue of Hookie Street.

    Kind Regards
    Sanjeev & Rishi

    Dear David and Nicholas,

I would like to say thank you to you and the OFAH Team, past and present. I can’t tell you how many times you have made me cry with laughter and cheered me up after a hard day at work.

The amazing John Sullivan will always be remembered as one of the great British writers and with you two and the rest of the cast, it will always be the best ever British comedy.

    Thank you

    Scott

  6. Tony Davies says:

    Hello Tony From Havant.

    Dear Sir David Jason….
Only Fools and Horses I love so much as it been Written by John very well.. Thank you for Doing the loveable spiff Del Boy because it reminds of man I knew growning up called Ron who was a right jack the lad as he was into hooky goods and a right wheeler dealer , but he was harmless really lol
The late Roger Lloyd pack Played ”Trigger” Very well and I had respected for him for playing the idiot very well when he called Rodney ” Dave” ….
John was such a talent writter making sitcom about London’s Spiffs who were trying to make a fast buck or too….
I have Only fools and horses on dvd and when I had a bad day I put one one to cheer me up and they do the job well.

    Regards Tony

  10. Jelena SERBIA says:

    Hello,

I have a special wish and I just want to make my boyfriend happy, with things that are not material and can not be by with money.

My boyfriend is a big fan of Sir David Jason and series Only Fools And Horses. I would like to do something special for him, I know I’m asking a lot, but is it possible that Mr. Jason shoot a short video clip where Sir Jason will mention his name?

We every night before bed, we watch episodes of the series Only Fools And Horses, and that’s my routine the last eight months. On the last 10 years, my boyfriend is every night playing the other episode and can not sleep untill he watch the series…

So my question is, how can I contact Sir David Jason and ask him to shoot a short video and send it to the my email address and I’ll send you his reaction back to the video of Sir David Jason.

    Sincerely, Jelena.

    • Griff says:

      Hello Jelena,

You can write to David Jason’s agent at and request such a thing:

      Sir David Jason
      The Richard Stone Partnership
      Suite 3, De Walden Court
      85 New Cavendish Street
      London
      W1W 6XD
      UK

It might be a bit of an ask as he receives thousands of requests probably similar to yours. I did hear once that he recorded a message as Del Boy, to somebody very poorly. Can’t verifiy if this is true or not. I would not get your hopes up.

      Good luck though!

      • Jelena says:

THANK YOU to moon and back and then back to the moon and more… I will try and I hope that I will be successful in my intention…

I think if I if I succeed in order, I think that I shall never be able to outdo it except when I, God willing, have a child with him… :)

Keep my fingers crossed that I succeed!

        THANK YOU once more…

        Sincerely, Jelena.

  13. patrick says:

hey guys does anyone know how i can email david jason specifically ?

    • CraigW says:

      Not a chance!

Only way would be via his agent.

      Craig.

    • Rob M says:

Sir David Jason is very hit n’ miss with fanmail.

sometimes you could go an entire year without a response, and then all of a sudden he will sign batch-loads.

the man is extremley hit n’ miss – you just have to be lucky enough to catch him at a time, when he’s signing loads.

      • Griff says:

I sent one of my OFAH scripts to him to simply get a critique reply – not to get commissioned or anything! All I wanted was for him to keep it, or sign it and return it etc.

What I got was a rather quick reply from his agent saying he can’t reply to unsolicited scripts but appreciated the mail and wished me luck in the future and quoted the title of my script.

Better than nothing. Was quite touched that the sheer mention of the title of my script was quoted.

His agent clearly didn’t read my cover letter properly as I clearly explained that, in a nutshell, wasn’t asking for anything to be commissioned. Just simply read and signed if he had time.

        • Perry says:

I think you’ll find most (all) writers will not read other peoples (fans) scripts and for a very simple reason – if John had read it and then years later wrote something similar they have a whole copyright issue on their hands – even if it sticks in a writers mind and they write sometime innocently and subconsciously – you would say ‘hang on that was my idea’ – so writers NEVER read scripts because of that – its the world we live in

          • Griff says:

            I understand that completely.

In this case, there’s no chance of another OFAH episode airing so this wouldn’t have been an issue essentially.

          • perry says:

it would have as john was a writer – writing all sorts of shows – a scenario is a scenario – a plot line is a plot line – if you see what I mean

Thank you Sir David Jason for such a moving tribute to John Sullivan. My PC has been out of action for a week or so, therefore have only just had a chance to read it.

There will be only one John Sullivan, nobody will ever take his place!

Makes me sad (and happy) watching “Time on our Hands”, as we get to see a snatched glimpse of the great man sitting in The Nags Head!

    Luv ya John.xxxxxx
