Darren Lethem is a Breakfast Presenter in Hull. Today and tomorrow he reveals his top 5 Only Fools And Horses moments.
For me there has being no better TV show than Only Fools and Horses. It has made me laugh and cry in equal measures ever since I first clapped eyes on the clapped out three wheeler. I never tire of watching the repeats but something came to me recently. We all have our favourite episodes but what about favourite scenes ? I had a think about it and came up with 5 that stick with me more than any other. Some classic moments are omitted like the chandelier in A Touch Of Glass, fantastically funny but eclipsed in the slapstick stakes by Del and the bar. TOP 5 ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES MOMENTS
At 5 – Del asks the way to Holland in To Hull and Back – What is it they say ? If you don’t know the way you just ask. A philosophy which Del followed to a T in a genius piece of writing. Of course Del didn’t see anything wrong in asking the oil workers the way to Holland but the rest of us find it ingenuous and hilarious. The beauty of John Sullivans writing is not always knowing what’s coming next. Expect the unexpected is the only guarantee you can get.
At 4 – Del falls through the bar in Yuppie Love – Many will wonder why this isn’t higher, and no doubt it is arguably the funniest ever Only Fools moment. Again, totally unexpected and a genius bit of comedy made even funnier by Roger Lloyd Pack’s superb straight face as a dishevelled Del drags himself up from the floor. Maybe it’s the fact that I have seen it a thousand and one times that it fails to make my top 3 or maybe it is because sentiment wins the day.
Tomorrow we see what made Darren’s top three is, and don’t forget to let us know your top three too.
