Last night I decided to see what it would be like to spend an evening in the company of Boycie and Marlene. Of course this is the live stage show currently on the road with John Challis and Sue Holderness.
The show was a real treat for Only Fools and Horses fans, as the show provides a real insight into these two loved characters from our favorite sitcom. What made it even more endearing was the attention to detail. For example the music used in the buildup to the show and during the interval were carefully selected songs with Only Fools connections. For example, most fans of the sitcom would know the episodes connected with “Crying” “Zoom” and “One Voice”.
The live banter between John and Sue was pure delight as it really was like having an evening with Boycie and Marlene and the atmosphere was superb as they shared memories and insight into many of the great Only Fools and Horses scripts.
It would be wrong for me to reveal too much as I thoroughly recommend you get a ticket and take the family to a delightful evening. There was some interesting early connections for both John and Sue as they gave us the background to the route taken before they were cast by John Sullivan for the characters in OFAH.
John and Sue are very down to earth and although I’ve only met them a few times in the past, it felt like an evening in the company of real friends. There timing was superb throughout and it was just like being at the filming of a Fools and Horses episode with out the camera crew.
After a small interval which felt like a time warp, as the Wimborne Tivoli theatre still serves ice-creams just like Joanie Trotter did in Rock and Chips, John and Sue took us forward through the episodes of the Green Green Grass.
The last 20 minutes was pure excitement as they took questions from the audience. There was still a lot of positive vibes that GGG Series 5 may still get the go ahead. The biggest delight for the audience was the mention of never ruling out another Only Fools Christmas special. With Only Fools 30th anniversary in 2011, the audience excitedly left the theatre just wondering whether David Jason would be prepared to link up one more time with John Sullivan and the gang to provide another special.
Make sure you don’t miss this great evening while it’s still on the road
Still some dates left to see this great family show
- Bracknell October 2nd
- Guernsey October 5/6th
- Newcastle October 12th
Only a fool would miss it!
It would be great if John Sullivan would do a 30th anniversary special, or even 1 more series with Rodneys daughter aged about 8 and have Boycie and Marlene pop back to Peckem for a long visit because they have missed everyone and missed Dels stupid catch phrases asswell.
