Rock and Chips is currently having 2 more episodes filmed. The only fools and horses prequel drama is made up of some of the best young actors in the UK taking on the roles of the young versions of our dear only fools characters.
Today we caught up with Stephen Lloyd who played Boycie.
OFAH – Have you been a fools and horses fan before hand?
Of course! Who isn’t? Only Fools is a national treasure! One of my earliest memories is watching Only Fools and Horses as a kid with a McDonald’s happy meal with my mum and dad.
OFAH – How did you feel when you heard you’d got the part of Boycie?
I was buzzing! I was literally on cloud 9! I wanted to tell the world, but wasn’t allowed to until there was an official press release.
OFAH – How did you go about preparing for the part?
I was told not to do an impression of John Challis’ Boycie, so unlike the rest of the boys, I made sure that I didn’t watch any episodes before filming as I didn’t want to be affected by the iconic Boycie voice and laugh.
OFAH – What was it like working on a prequel of the great sitcom – any pressure?
Meeting David Jason, eating lunch with Nicholas Lyndhurst and working with John Sullivan…just another day at the office! Hehe! It was an amazing experience and very surreal. We all knew the pressure was there but we made sure that we stayed focused on telling this story and not ‘re-making’ Only Fools.

OFAH – Would you like more than one series to come out of it?
Definitely! I’d really like to see the characters develop into the men they become and to see Boycie and Marlene get together.
OFAH – What other rolls have you played
I do a lot of theatre. My first job after leaving drama school was in the Ray Davies musical ‘Come Dancing’ at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East which is also where I will be performing in the new Ian Dury musical ‘Reasons To Be Cheerful’ from Oct 22nd – Nov 13th 2010 (I will be filming Rock and Chips during the day and performing this show at night!). I have also been in Holby City and Silent Witness.
OFAH – Out of all the actors – who was the joker?
That would have to be Lewis (Trigger). He just comes out with these one liners that are just hilarious!
OFAH – Tell us about a behind the scenes gem that we may not of known from watching the show
My favourite scene to film was the bus scene when Del throws my Saveloy out of the window. During one take he nearly hit these two girls walking down the street, they must have been so confused to see a 1960’s bus driving past and having a Saveloy being thrown at them! Catford was raining Saveloys that night and anyone following our route would have found one on the pavement every 5 minutes!
