A follow-up to our recent post about Michele Winstanley and the collection of scripts she donated to the Society has led to a remarkable insight into the Hole in One Grandad episode.
Michele appeared in 4 episodes from series 3, however she also had a copy of the script for Hole in One. An episode from series 4 that she didn’t appear in.
This was because she was due to carry on as Karen into series 4, but she was already committed to record Shine on Harvey Moon so had to pull out of Fools. But she was still given Hole in One at that point.
The interesting thing about this early version of Hole in One is that it was written for Lennard Pearce.
This is the third version of this script in our collection and its the most different to the Buster Merryfield version so far.

Interesting find! Also interesting that we see Grandad’s first names here – they wouldn’t be revealed onscreen until the prequel, Rock and Chips?
Also, Trigger’s name was Colin Ball, but the lads just reffered to him as Trigger because he looked like a horse.
I would like to see a full script of this because I own The Bible of Peckham Volumes 1-3 (The Scripts) and nowhere a Grandad version. Also with Dad’s Army they have published The Recruit with James Beck in. Same circumstances

Thanks for sharing, I could hear Grandads voice while reading it.

Thanks for posting guys, a great read.
I’m convinced that the original HIO footage with Grandad is still in existence somewhere in the archives, particularly in view of the many production & publicity stills that I have seen to date. An absolute gem of a find if anyone did ever lay their hands on it!
