Lennard Pearce played Grandad. After 28 years we wanted to remember just how great Grandad was in Only Fools.
This scene has also recently been discovered where several years before his appearance in Only Fools Lennard appeared in Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare!
(9 February 1915 – 15 December 1984). Just as Only Fools and Horses entered into the hearts of the British public and became the sitcom everyone talked about, Lennard Pearce died. On 12 December 1984, Lennard Pearce suffered a heart attack. Two days later, John Sullivan visited him, and assured Pearce that his place in the programme would be open for him when he recovered. However, Pearce suffered a second heart attack, and died instantly, on the night of 15 December 1984. Sullivan was phoned the following morning to be told the news, and he broke it to co-starsDavid Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst, who were both devastated.
Today we celebrate some of Grandads greatest moments…
Lennard Pearce 2 weeks before he died
A small Children in Need interview has recently been added to Youtube.
It involves Nicholas Lyndhurst and Lennard Pearce who played Grandad.
Hole in One Lost Scenes
The OFAH episode “Hole in One” was meant to be the first episode of series four, but due to Lennard Pearce’s death, it was pushed back to later slot in the series. Filming for the episode had not yet been completed and eventually was deleted.
Grandads Missing scene found for Thicker Than Water
It may only be 10 seconds or so, but after 29 years many will have forgotten it, some will have never seen it. Below you can see the missing scenes:
Grandad inspired by Minder
Ever wondered where Lennard Pearce got the inspiration for his character of Grandad from?
I think we found the answer..
Grandad on the Shakin Stevens Video
I was watching ‘Britain’s favourite Christmas Songs’ on Channel 5. And at number 22 was the Shakin’ Stevens version of ‘Blue Christmas’. But how exciting to see our Grandad joining in the fun
Grandad hilarous in Licensed to Drill
Finally a full lost episode – Delboy and Rodney are seen in this extremely rare episode filmed around 1984 and discovered by OFAH fan Laura Daynes. This 27 minute episode includes Grandad.

So, not only was he a briolkliant comic actor, but a brilliant serious actor too!
I never through I’d see Grandad and Captain Picard in the same scene…..
briolkliant = brilliant
through = thought
Typing before coffee never quite works….
I have the Shakin Stevens video, or the scene from that video. It’s from Hartys Christmas Special, I have it here if you want it, i’ll get it uploaded to YouTube now and post a link in the reply :)

I only posted this on the OFAH facebook page a couple of weeks ago. Guess you managed to get hold of it somehow. I extracted it from the original footage I have of the Russell Harty Christmas special.
I tried this and it came up as blocked video so where else can i view it?
The Minder/Grandad theory doesn’t stand up as Series 5 of Minder was shot after the first episode of OFAH.
