Hole in One Lost Scenes
As you may know, The OFAH episode “Hole in One” was meant to be the first episode of series four, but due to Lennard Pearce’s death, it was pushes back to later slot in the series. Filming for the episode had not yet been completed, so whe
n Buster Merryfield had been selected as the new character, most of the scenes for the episode had to be re-shot. It is widely believed that the original scenes with Lenard Peirce have been destroyed. The only scene that was left alone to remain in the episode was of Mike looking up at the trotters from the seller of The Nag’s Head. All other scenes were re-shot.
Whatever the fate of the original tapes, hardly anything from them exists. A few ultra-rare shots can be seen below of the original scene from outside the court.
(With Thanks to Darren Brewer for providing one of the screen shots)
In one way – I’m glad we didn’t get to see hole in one with Grandad in it, because Lennard looked so ill, and he died not long after filming these scenes – and I dont really want to see pics of Lennard about 2-3 days before he died – it’s not nice.
but then again, I can see why others would be interested in this – as it’s such a rare piece, and a much talked about episode, causes a quite a stir as to whether the original footage was lost or still exsits somewhere.
If you take another look at the scene of Mike looking up from the cellar, the coat in the frame is Uncle Albert’s Duffel, and not Grandad’s grey one.
