Dear young Rodney. The kid who was sent out by Del to sell Gas converters while he was wearing a flower shirt and had chicken pox. Rodney said from a distance he looked naked from the waist up. Of course it was an all electric estate Del had sent him onto while he looked after his mates girlfriend Deidre.
Or is the young Rodney getting caught smoking his “funny fags” with the Chinese girl in an unknown episode of Only Fools and Horses. Sadly not!
So we don’t need to imagine what a young Rodders would look like if Only Fools & Horses ran in the late seventies as we now have some early pictures of one of our favorite characters
Its Young Nick, Not Young Rodney
But actually this isn’t little Rodders at all. It’s Nicholas Lyndhurst in “Going Straight”. This the seventies spin-off series of Porridge, based on Fletcher & Godbers life outside of prison.
Only Fools fan Michael C was surprised to see that the role of Fletcher’s teenage son Raymond was played by none other than our own Nicholas Lyndhurst.
The series dates from 1978 and as you can see from the screenshots Nick looks really young here.
The series also featured Ron Pember as Percy the milkman.
You will recognise him as Baz, the chairman of the tenants association in the episode Homesick from Series 3.
(Incidentally he also appeared in Red Dwarf Series 2 episode “Better than Life” as a sadistic tax collector. (screenshot above.)
Nice little review, but I thought it was commonly-known that Nicholas Lyndhurt appeared in ‘Going Straigh’?.
Weird to think Sir David Jason and Nick Lyndhurt effectively appeared in the same sitcom (sort-of) before Only Fools.
