So what did the local paper report on Freddie Robdal’s arrest in Rock and Chips?
We can now read the Peckham echo for the very first time.
Fortunately the paper has been resued by Perry and now means we all get a chance to see the full details
Take a look at the direct scan from the very paper used in Rock and Chips
LOCAL MAN TO BE SENTENCED
LOCAL MAN Freddie Robdal is to be sentenced today for taking a public vehicle without the owner’s permission, driving on the pubiic highway without insurance and driving a vehicle without the appropriate licence.
He was arrested last year whilst attending a party at one of the flats on the New World Estate, Peckham. He was then taken for questioning at the Peckham Police Station. New evidence became available which enabled the police to arrest the notorious thief. Detective Sergeant Thomas and Detective Constable Stanton were present at the arrest and have since been conducting the various interviews and enquiries. Robdal appeared to have been on the coach trip to Margate . However he admitted the offence to the court.
Once again these little extras are what made John Sullivan’s scripts so special.
The other paper continues the story with more detail of the witness and what was actually stolen. Again no detail missed out…
LOCAL PAIR TO FACE TRIAL FOR SEASIDE ROBBERY
FREDDIE ROBDAL and “Jelly” Kelly are to face trial for
the robbery that took place at Butlers’ Jewellers in the
High Street, Margate last July.
The pair blew the safe causing serious damage to the room and stole the entire contents including many rings, necklaces, watehes and the week’s takings. The pair were arrested last month whilst attending a party at one of the flats on the New World Estate, Peckham. They were then taken for questioning at the Peckham Police Station.
New evidence became available which enabled the police to arrest the notorious thieves. Detective Sergeant Thomas and Detective Constable Stanton were present at the arrest and have since been conducting the various interviews and enqries. Robdal and Kelly appear to have been on a coach trip to Margate as an alibi for the crime. However a new witness seems to have come forward who can place the pair at the scene.
Make sure you let Perry know if you want to see all these Rock and Chips gems at the coming Only Fools Convention. Convention tickets are selling fast, so make sure you get yours early as last year sold out!
And I loved the headlines in today’s (21 January 2014) publicity picture of ‘Beckham in Peckham’, promoting the football star in a forthcoming Only Fools and Horses special for Sport Relief. Tucked away under Beckham’s arm is the Peckham Echo, of course, with the classic headline ‘Angry man shoves wife into dog basket’. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-25810546
Almost time to get the trilogy out. Lovely jubbly.
